Minister Abdul Majied Muhammad was a husband, father and soldier in the cause of Islam. Janazah services for the 73-year-old Minister Majied were held Monday, August 31, 2015 in Nashville, Tenn. He was 73 years old.

Min. Majied was a pioneer in the Nation of Islam who became a registered Muslim in 1960 at the age of 17. He came under the tutelage of Minister Hamzah in Temple (Mosque) No. 18 in Cleveland, Ohio and was known as James 10X. He soon left a doowop singing group named “The Crescents” after growing tired of the music lifestyle and manipulation from their Jewish manager in order to help the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad resurrect our people from mental death.

He helped to establish study groups throughout the state of Ohio; most notably in Youngstown and Akron. After The Nation fell in 1975, he and his mother returned to Nashville where he spent some of his childhood. He met his wife Sister Cynthia Muhammad in 1979. When he learned that the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan was rebuilding the Nation of Islam, he began traveling to meet with him to get help sent to Nashville.

In 1981, Min. Farrakhan told Min. Majied that he wasn’t sending anyone because he was looking at who he was sending. Min. Majied then began working to rebuild the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad in Nashville. He worked tirelessly in the Tennessee state prisons wearing out four cars in the process traveling to teach in the prisons. He registered thousands of believers into the Nation of Islam in his 55 years of selfless labor.

He returned to Allah on August 25, 2015. His service opened with prayer from his son Saladin Muhammad and he read a letter sent by Minister Farrakhan offering condolences on behalf of himself, family and the Nation of Islam. Words of comfort were delivered by respected pastors in the community who worked with Min. Majied and Muhammad Mosque No. 60. Pastors Frank Stevenson, David Shivers and James “Tex” Thomas offered passionate words of encouragement.

Fellow Pioneer and friend Abdul Rahman Muhammad traveled from Atlanta to tell everyone that Min. Majied was “one of the best men I knew, and I don’t think I said that about anybody”. Southern Regional Student Minister Abdul Sharrieff Muhammad offered words of encouragement to the Believers and community to continue this work and honor his legacy.

Min. Majied’s eulogy and Janazah was led by Brother Samuel X who served as his Assistant Minister for over 10 years. Minister Majied leaves to cherish his memory and work, 10 children, a host of grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and thousands of believers whom all benefited from his sacrifice to cherish his memory.
