The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan continued to influence, inspire, and motivate people from all walks of life and on this special evening, he spoke about the enemy’s fear of a Black Messiah.
“We’re not in as bad a shape as you think we are; we’re just divided and disconnected,” he said.
Min. Farrakhan referred to J. Edgar Hoover’s words in an infamous memorandum, which gave rise to the FBI’s nefarious counter intelligence program (COINTELPRO) which targeted many Black organizations and caused the loss of many Black lives. Agent provocateurs and spies were inserted in every Black organization to get information about the weaknesses of Black leaders and Black organizations to disrupt the organizations.
“J. Edgar Hoover’s aim was to stop the rise of a Black Messiah. What did J. Edgar Hoover know about the coming messiah that he was searching among Black people for such a one? If you study the scriptures, Pharaoh knew that it was time for a deliverer to be born, and he gave an order to kill all male children,” said the Minister. “So it was with Herod. He knew a great one was to be born. He thought it was the messiah in his day. He knew! And that is something about the enemy, they always know that somebody is coming after them.”
“When you think of how the enemy killed their great leaders, I say to my native family, I want you to rise up and look like Cochise again, rise up and look like Sitting Bull again, rise up and become the great spiritual warriors that your ancestors were,” he said.
The Minister described how his mother tried to abort him several times. Later, his mother would thank God for what her womb produced.
“I’m a good reason why you shouldn’t kill the fruit of your womb,” said Min. Farrakhan. “She did not know that she was going to produce one, who would meet the one that Hoover was afraid would come. That one would teach and train me that when he went away, he had already made himself again in another man and that man would continue his work to its fulfillment and completion.”
But no matter what the enemy has done to us, Blacks have survived all of the plots, experimentation, poisonous vaccines and tainted food.
“As we survive we get stronger and stronger and today, he trembles when he sees our young people,” said Min. Farrakhan. “The messiah is here. The one the world has longed for is present in the world, and he’s not a White man. He’s born from the Tribe of Shabazz, he’s the ancient of days having no beginning of days, nor ending of years because nothing in the heavens or the earth can tell you the birth record of the Black man and the Black woman!”
The Minister urged the audience to support “Justice Or Else!” a gathering planned for Oct. 10 in Washington, D.C., not as a reunion on the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March but as a demand for freedom, justice and equality. He urged the audience to reject fear and boldly assert the value of their own lives by combating violence from outside of the community and fratricidal violence inside the community. To overcome tyranny, the Black community must have a serious mind and a willingness to sacrifice and defend itself from unjust killings, if government will not act, said Min. Farrakhan. We must also use the principles of non-violence when dealing with one another, the Minister added.
He called for a boycott of Christmas holiday spending as a way of using economic leverage Dr. Martin Luther King spoke of in 1968, the night before his assassination in Memphis. Dr. King called for “economic withdrawal,” or boycotting businesses that would not deal fairly with Black people, the Minister noted. Not spending money will “spread the pain,” as Dr. King noted, to those who oppress us, said Min. Farrakhan.
Although the Minister speaks quite often in Christian churches, there are times when the mere mention of his name and scheduled appearance generates controversy. Such was the case prior to his appearance at Jerusalem Baptist Church to speak to the spiritual leaders and activists from the metropolitan Milwaukee area Aug. 12.
Rev. Gregory Lewis, chair of Pastors United, came under fire for inviting Min. Farrakhan to speak, but he resisted pressure. Rev. Lewis told his critics, “You really don’t know this man of God! Somebody has got to bridge the gap!”
Also at the meeting was Maria Hamilton, the mother of Dontre Hamilton.
“I’m standing here today because the Nation of Islam has adopted me and my family,” said Ms. Hamilton.
Her son was shot and killed April 30, 2014 after Milwaukee police got calls about a man sleeping in a park. Former Milwaukee police Officer Christopher Manney was fired for his handling of the situation. Mr. Manney shot Mr. Hamilton 14 times, however Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm ruled against criminally charging him—which outraged the activist community.
“This call for Justice or Else! is exactly that for us. We will continue to resist,” said Ms. Hamilton.
After the speaking engagements were over Pastor Harold Moore, who has been the pastor of Mercy Memorial Baptist Church for 28 years, reflected on Min. Farrakhan’s words. Pastor Moore favors the Christmas and Black Friday boycott.
“Once again, the Minister is right on,” said Pastor Moore. “The amount of money that we put into the economy—it is time that we make people recognize the value we have, especially economic value.”
Long time revolutionary activist Michael McGee said it is about time for true, uncompromising leadership to get needed support.
“Justice Or Else! is really a solid ideology. I was at the first Million Man March and I’m a firm supporter of Minister Farrakhan and really, he’s my leader so if he wants to do it, I’m with him whatever way he wants to go,” said Mr. McGee. “I think he hit the nail on the head because it’s up to the Black leaders to lead and what they’ve really been doing is misleading us. And I think today, the Minister asked who are they for, us or them? So far they’ve been for them and they’ve been following his-story instead of history.”
Jermaine Reed, executive director and owner of Fresh Start Family Services, said for Minister Farrakhan to come to rally people for Justice Or Else! is “life-changing.”
“I think it was very empowering, enlightening, and done in the spirit of unity and love and definitely the medicine that we need right now given all that is going on in our community,” said Mr. Reed.
