‘There is a powerful lobby determined to prevent any view other than its own from being aired, still less to factor in American understanding of trends and events in the Middle East. The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency and include character assassination, selective misquotation, the willful distortion of the record, the fabrication of falsehoods, and an utter disregard for the truth.’ —Charles Freeman
The Israel Jewish lobbyists are rejoicing. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the most powerful special interest group that serves Israeli interests has scored a “victory.” President Barack Obama caved in to their demands. The highly qualified and honorable man, Charles Freeman, whom Mr. Obama hoped to head the highest intelligence office, withdrew his “previous acceptance.” The President was dead silent, not even a single word of regret. He didn't even wish him “goodbye!”
Sen. Chuck Schumer, (D-New York), a lead Israeli lobbyist, boasted just minutes after the Freeman's announcement:
“His (Freeman's) statements against Israel were way over the top ... I repeatedly urged the White House to reject him, and I am glad they did the right thing.”
Steven J. Rosen of the Middle East Forum, who first led the ugly war against Freeman's appointment, is currently on trial for violations of the Espionage Act involving transmission of classified data to a foreign country, Israel.
Of course, the White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, an Israeli Jew, was their go between and loyal man in the White House.
Stephen Walt, a professor of international affairs at Harvard University, who, together with Professor John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago, co-authored a diatribe against the Israel lobby, wrote:
“... this incident does not speak well for Barack Obama's principles, or even his political instincts. It is one thing to pander to various special interest groups while you're running for office—everyone expects that sort of thing—but it's another thing to let a group of bullies push you around in the first fifty days of your administration.”
In his radio address, a week earlier, on February 28, 2009 to be exact, President Obama emphasized that he isn't captive to any special interest group:
“The system we have now might work for the powerful and well-connected interests that have run Washington for far too long, but I don't. I work for the American people ... I didn't come here to do the same thing we've been doing or to take small steps forward, I came to provide the sweeping change that this country demanded when it went to the polls in November.”
Mr. Freeman, a veteran diplomat who was chosen to chair the National Intelligence Council, made it clear that he no longer accepts the job. Mr. Freeman, known for his integrity and independence, refuses to allow his good name to be dragged through the mud.
“I have concluded that the barrage of libelous distortions of my record would not cease upon my entry into office. The effort to smear me and to destroy my credibility would instead continue. I do not believe the National Intelligence Council could function effectively while its chair was under constant attack by unscrupulous people with a passionate attachment to the views of a political faction in a foreign country (Israel). I agreed to chair the NIC to strengthen it and protect it against politicization, not to introduce it to efforts by a special interest group to assert control over it through a protracted political campaign.”
He continued, “There is a powerful lobby determined to prevent any view other than its own from being aired, still less to factor in American understanding of trends and events in the Middle East. The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency and include character assassination, selective misquotation, the willful distortion of the record, the fabrication of falsehoods, and an utter disregard for the truth. The aim of this Lobby is control of the policy process through the exercise of a veto over the appointment of people who dispute the wisdom of its views, the substitution of political correctness for analysis, and the exclusion of any and all options for decision by Americans and our government other than those that it favors.”
“There is a special irony in having been accused of improper regard for the opinions of foreign governments and societies by a group so clearly intent on enforcing adherence to the policies of a foreign government–in this case, the government of Israel. I believe that the inability of the American public to discuss, or the government to consider, any option for U.S. policies in the Middle East opposed by the ruling faction in Israeli politics has allowed that faction to adopt and sustain policies that ultimately threaten the existence of the state of Israel. It is not permitted for anyone in the United States to say so. This is not just a tragedy for Israelis and their neighbors in the Middle East; it is doing widening damage to the national security of the United States.”
Americans are increasingly aware of the bizarre influence of the Israel lobby. They resent its dirty tactics. They are angry, frustrated and disappointed. This is not a change, but a continuation of a failed policy that brought the world enormous disasters.
Though it has emerged as the most powerful nation in the history of mankind after the Second World War, the United States of America has lost its sovereignty and independence and has been in effect an Israeli Jewish “colony” since May 15, 1948, when President Harry Truman recognized Israel, two hours before Israel's Polish-born first Prime Minister David Ben Gurion declared, for the first time, the independence of the Israeli Jewish state on Palestinian Christian and Muslim lands. Jewish hijacking of U.S. foreign policy became possible as a result of their dominance over the media, Hollywood, and the entertainment industry, as well as the financial institutions. The label of “anti-Semitism” and the use or misuse of the “holocaust” have been their weapons of mass destruction.
The Israeli lobbyists' celebration of their success intimidating the new president may not be for too long. Their arrogant attitude and behavior which has been harmful to U.S. interests and detrimental to peace in the Middle East is self-defeating and self-destructive. It is also humiliating and unacceptable.
According to political analysts, including Israeli commentators, Israel's influence all over the world, including the United States, is waning. The Israelis, who practically rely on the U.S. for their bread and butter, as well as their weapons, are extremely worried.
If President Obama capitulates and does not stand up tall and fight to free America of being subservient to Israel—a settler state that was born through theft and violence— history will not treat him with kindness. He will lose his credibility at home and abroad. He will no longer be effective. Americans reject the status quo. They were jubilant to see George W. Bush go.
Mr. Obama has lost a battle. It was fierce and ugly. As always, Americans are the losers. Those who put their trust in Obama demand that he stand tall and fight. The war must go on. Round one has been lost. The U.S. President must show the entire world, the game is far from over. Those who have been spying on the United States, and shipping its military and industrial secret data to Israel, which in turn sells it abroad, must be defeated. Their “victory” may end up being a self-inflicted blunder.
