‘I know we have a lot of people who are interested in learning about the Nation and this game is an excellent introductory course. Some people, they like to play games—they can lear from playing games. We feel like this is for everybody because truth is truth.’

Family night just got better with “The Master,” a board game created by the husband and wife team of Shaheerah Farrakhan and Stephon Muhammad. The new game incorporates the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and Supreme Wisdom Lessons of the Nation of Islam, into a fun and engaging game similar to Monopoly.

“When I was in college, I first heard the Minister when we started going to the mosque and I noticed that when families would leave the mosque, it would be back to everyday life; there was nothing really fun to do as far as studying the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad,” Stephon Muhammad told The Final Call.

“When I met my wife, we discussed the game, and she took it to a whole ‘nother level. She just completely transformed it,” he continued.

Ms. Farrakhan, granddaughter of Min. Farrakhan, then expanded on the concept of the game by including different categories of questions.

“Me having a performance background and being in creative entities, it just inspired questions,” she stated. “I guess it started us thinking taking the idea of us having a game and it be about the Nation. It was a very inspiring thing once we got on the same page.”

The game allows up to eight players, each with the goal of purchasing or acquiring elements from as many of the Nine Ministries of the Nation of Islam as possible—The Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The player must answer the question correctly in order to purchase a ministry. The more questions answered correctly, the quicker a player becomes a “master.”

“The objective of the game is to become a master,” Mr. Muhammad continued. “You become a god just by mastering the teachings.” He and his wife stated that the game is an excellent introductory course to the Nation of Islam. Anyone can play the game and can master the principles, they said.

“I know we have a lot of people who are interested in learning about the Nation and this game is an excellent introductory course. Some people, they like to play games—they can learn from playing games. We feel like this is for everybody because truth is truth,” Ms. Farrakhan stated.

The couple also introduced the concept of the game to Min. Farrakhan who was very pleased and welcoming of it.

“He was so excited! We brought the prototype to my grandfather and as I was showing him, explaining it to him—he really just lit up and had tears in his eyes,” Ms. Farrakhan said cheerfully.

“He even said to us, ‘you made my day, my month and possibly even my year’. He went as far as giving us permission to use Master Fard Muhammad’s, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s and his images. ... To make that man happy is one of the best life goals you could ever have,” she added.

The couple hopes to introduce extensions of the game and host national competitions during Saviours’ Day, the Nation of Islam’s annual convention.  Competitors would be able to win prizes and donations for their mosque and/or study group.

“We want to thank all the people who encouraged us, who kept us really focused. Our family members once they saw what we were doing were impacted and encouraged us to make this a reality,” the couple stated.
