The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan performed a check-up on a young Black woman manhandled by police at a Waffle House in Alabama and her community through his Student Minister Nuri Muhammad.

Student Min. Nuri, of Muhammad Mosque No. 74 in Indianapolis, met with Chikesia Clemons, 25, and her mother, Chiquita during his visit June 2-3. 

A video clip of the violent April encounter went viral and sparked outrage and conversation, but not enough action, said Student Min. Muhammad.   

He was invited by community advocates and the Muhammad Mosque Mobile Study Group, which has been providing counseling and support to Ms. Clemons, as well as fighting for justice in the city. 

“They brought me into the city, because the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and our Nation has a deeply vested interest in not only justice for our sister, but to make sure that our sister recovers well from this incident that has caused her psychic trauma,” Student Min. Nuri Muhammad explained.

On June 2, he delivered the lecture, “Respect and Protect the Black Woman or Die Trying,” at the Sunlight District Auditorium in Prichard, Ala.  The next day, he issued, “How to Love a Black Woman and How to Love a Black Man,” for the Mobile Study Group’s main Sunday address. Prichard borders the northside of Mobile.

“I went there to let the men know that a badge and a gun does not deactivate your God-given mandate and your divine authority to respect and protect your woman.  We should never be there with a camera phone out, filming, as the police or anyone abuses our women,” Min. Muhammad stated.

Ms. Clemons is recovering well, getting her footing, stability, self-worth, confidence, and her state of mind is in a good place by God’s grace, he said.  He announced that hundreds of men—Muslims, Christians, non-religious, street people—vowed, “never again will I be there and watch my sister, whoever she is, be mishandled or disrespected ever again.  I will lose my life if I have to, but I will never allow this violation to take place again,” Min. Muhammad stated.

These were two of 13 lectures that Student Min. Muhammad, known for his “user friendly” style of teaching God, politics, health, wealth, and liberation theology, presented in seven different cities during the first 20 days of Ramadan.  It is the Muslims’ Holy Month of fasting, prayer, and charitable acts which lasts for 30 days.

While in Alabama, Student Min. Muhammad also met with community groups like “Cease Fire,” who are working to end gang violence, and, others who are building schools, like Rodney ‘DJ Rodski’ Toomer.  He was the catalyst behind the visit, Student Min. Muhammad shared.

Mr. Toomer said he watched some of Min. Muhammad’s inspirational video clips and began following him online.  “Brother was so in-depth with the teachings (of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad) and how to relay it in layman’s terms for even the most uneducated brother that really doesn’t know, that he just made a profound impression on me,” said Mr. Toomer.
