Recovery and relief efforts in Houston are underway and volunteers and assistance is coming from various organizations including churches, mosques, nonprofit organizations and ordinary citizens. Muslims from the Nation of Islam are collaborating with one another to help in these efforts.

“We are operational and functioning. Please don’t be ashamed to come get clothing, food, personal hygiene, medical and cleaning supplies. We are here for you because of the generosity of an entire nation. #Harvey #ConnectTheDots,” Abdul Haleem Muhammad, Southwest Regional Representative of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and Student Minister of Mosque No. 45 in Houston, posted on social media. Supplies including clothing items for men, women, children and babies, food, water and other materials are being collected.

Queendom Come, Inc. a Houston-based nonprofit organization that works with women and girls is also assisting in efforts. Longtime local activist Deric Muhammad is also helping with efforts on the city’s north side in conjunction with Greenhouse International Church pastored by E.A. Deckard.

“LISTEN!!! Do not become Overwhelmed with the magnitude of the impact of this storm. Nobody can help everybody, but everybody can help somebody. DO THIS! Help Somebody ... THEN REPEAT! Help someone else ... THEN REPEAT!!! Let’s Go!!!#Harvey,” Deric Muhammad said via social media. For more information visit
