Farrakhan
makes appeal
for fair U.S. policy toward Iraq
BAGHDAD, IraqThe purpose of our Peace Mission was to encourage the unity of
Muslim leaders and the Muslim community so that they could speak
with one voice to the American administration, appealing to
President Bush and his nobler self to aid in the relief of the
pain and misery of the Palestinian people, and that the Muslim
community would speak with one voice against the war planned by
the United States against Iraq. We believe that President Bush
is not getting the best advice in the decision that he made,
reflected in his vision of peace for the Middle East.

White House aims to inflame White voters,
Democrat charges
WASHINGTON (NNPA)The Bush White House is trying to inflame White
voters by reminding them of the potential power of Black representatives
if Democrats win control of the House, a Democratic spokeswoman says. Jennifer Palmieri, spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee
(DNC), says White House Political Director Kenneth Mehlman appeared to
use a quotation by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) in a PowerPoint
presentation to West Coast Republicans in order to send a subtle racial
message.

The business of the Black church
One thing I am sure we can agree on is that the
greatest example of pooling our resources is demonstrated every Sunday
in our churches. People work collectively for common goals, and they
pool their dollars to support their church and its programs. Thats
simple economic empowerment. Churches do it every Sunday. Why cant we
do it on the other six days of the week? As long as I have been writing about and studying this phenomenon, I
have yet to figure that one out, but lets concentrate on this positive
notion of economics in our churches.

Expectations run high for
African Union
JOHANNESBURG (IPS)South Africa has spelled out some of its
priorities for the launch of the African Union (AU) in July, including a
new emphasis on accountability over national sovereignty. As the host country, South Africa is expected to provide the lead on
many of the organizational and political issues that will be dealt with
at the launch. One is a proposed "peer review mechanism" to compel
African states to practice good governance and provide a measurable
standard for donors that aid is being spent effectively.
