"What we have to do is control the
press in our own communities, or else we will always be victims of the most
snide and vicious accounts ever given concerning a people,� said Charles
Tisdale, publisher of the Jackson Advocate.
Reparations resolution passed in
Chicago
CHICAGO--History
was made here May 17 as the city�s aldermen approved a resolution asking
Congress to hold hearings to consider paying reparations to descendants of
African slaves.
The city council voted overwhelmingly to approve the measure after
April�s emotional testimony by scholars on how the effects of slavery
are still manifesting themselves in the lives of Black Americans today.

Scholar C. Eric Lincoln dies at 75
C. Eric Lincoln, 75, author of
the seminal book about the Nation of Islam, �Black Muslims In
America,� died May 14 in Durham, N.C.
The funeral of one of last century�s great contributors to arts and
letters was held May 18 at Duke University�s Chapel. Survivors include
his wife Lucy and four children.

CINCINNATI�Support for the
Million Family March continues to grow as the march�s national director
found during a whirlwind visit here, sponsored by the Cincinnati chapter
of the National African American Leadership Summit, the Million Family
March Local Organizing Committee, Muhammad Mosque No. 5, the Coalition of
Concerned Citizens, the Avondale Community Council, and a host of
supportive groups, leaders, and community activists.
