(FinalCall.com)After
an initial meeting in Philadelphia, the Commission for the Restructuring
and Reorganization of the Nation of Islam, or the Atonement Commission,
held regional meetings in Chicago and Atlanta on June 22 and June 29,
respectively.
Upcoming meetings are scheduled for Washington, D.C. on July 13,
Houston on July 27 and Los Angeles the first weekend in August.
The purpose for these day-long dialog conferences is to let Believers
know something new is happening in the Nation and it is not just for a
few, but for everyone, said Commission chairman Abdul Alim Muhammad.
The Nation must become fully developed to meet the needs of its
people and the Believers, those who love the Nation, the Honorable
Minister Louis Farrakhan, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Great
Mahdi Master Fard Muhammad are invited to assist in the development of
their Nation, he said. The meetings are for all of those who love the
Nation and its teachings even if they are not necessarily at every
meeting, he added.
The conferences introduce the process of deliberative dialog to
analyze and resolve problems and recruit people for the effort, he
explained. It begins with registering with the Commission and going
through a process to join a task force, Min. Alim Muhammad said. The
task forces range from nine major areas, such as Defense, Justice,
Education Agriculture and Information, to other areas, such as Personnel
Management, Mosque Affairs and Family Life. There are about 21 different
task force areas.
The June 22 meeting at headquarters Mosque Maryam was an important
milestone, Min. Alim Muhammad said. It was crowned by a presentation
from Mother Tynnetta Muhammad, who delivered a 20-minute presentation on
the name of the Commission and tied it to the mission and Lessons of the
Nation of Islam, he said. Min. Ishmael Muhammad also spoke to conference
participants and welcomed the Commission to Mosque Maryam.
Southern Regional Minister Ray Muhammad and Regional Capt. Tim
Muhammad did a very good job, drawing Believers from throughout the
region, despite some challenges, Min. Alim Muhammad said.
The spirit of righteous competition for attendance is growing between
the regions, he added.
After attending the Atonement Commission meeting at Mosque Maryam,
Sis. Marcella X, who attends Muhammad Mosque No. 2B, on Chicagos west
side, felt greater hope that the Nation would be better able to serve
the needs of people. Joining a discussion group, following an
introductory session and demonstration of dialog by Commissioners, where
Believers talked about problems and solutions, made her feel heard and
understood. "There was some type of communication going on beyond my
captain and my minister. We need more people who are more skilled and
qualified to deal with issues that are going to come before us," she
said.
Gregory Sane Muhammad, a Chicago-based Commissioner, was also upbeat
following the regional meeting. He believes the experience of
participants and the Commissioners is in line with the expectation the
Hon. Minister Louis Farrakhan has for the Commission and its work.
"There was plenty of tension in the air because people didnt know
what to expect," he observed. But following a session where
Commissioners made presentations on change, there was a greater level of
comfort, he said.
Bro. Gregory facilitated a breakout session on Justice and
participants wanted to continue to discuss the topic. "I just heard
people saying, We really want to get to the bottom of the problems and
the different things that are keeping us from being all we can be. "
"Many times when decisions are made and different things happen
around us, to us and about us, we always feel like we didnt have any
input. To me this is like putting yourself at the table ... to help make
those decisions," he said. In addition, Bro. Gregory added when the
final report is given to the Minister in the fall, participants will
know they contributed to it.
Other Commissioners who attended the Chicago meeting included Aleatha
Muhammad, Georgette Muhammad, Wahid Muhammad, Lydia Muhammad, Claudette
Marie Muhammad, Obiozor Okeke and Richard Muhammad.
