CHICAGO (FinalCall.com) - Speaking March 1 in the pulpit of St. Sabina Catholic Church, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan laid out how the commonality in religion, not division, are the way to impact society and to change social reality. Alternating between the Bible and Holy Qur’an, Min. Farrakhan described how the work of redemption is in the streets, not safe inside the walls of houses of worship. He applauded the work of Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina for constantly working to stop violence and other ills that affect the neighborhood surrounding his church. The activist priest, who is also White and leads a predominantly Black congregation, is an example of a follower of Christ in action, said the Minister.

“Our children are out there killing themselves and one another. My beloved brother lost his daughter to senseless violence,” said Min. Farrakhan as Nathaniel Pendleton, whose 15-year-old daughter Hadiya Pendleton was shot to death a week after attending President Obama’s inauguration, sat in the audience. The young men arrested for the shooting “are just babies” but “crazy, irrational” savages killed Hadiya, he said. Min. Farrakhan again urged Blacks to give up weapons, warning guns are dangerous because they are used to settle disputes and arguments, not as a last line of self-defense. Guns give a false sense of power, said Min. Farrakhan. These guns are also an excuse for Black people to be shot down by authorities, he added.

Min. Farrakhan noted how the Nation of Islam members are not allowed to carry weapons and are taught to settle disputes with words based on truth. Consider the Nation’s way and example from the teachings of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad, he said.

“Most of the weapons that are in our community are illegal weapons sold to our children by enemies who know how they are going to use them,” noted Min. Farrakhan. “They put boys in jail, but what about those bringing the guns in?”

Min. Farrakhan was the final speaker for St. Sabina’s Black History Month Speaker’s Series. He thanked Father Pfleger for allowing him to speak and invited the priest to speak at Mosque Maryam, the Nation’s flagship headquarters. Father Pfleger called Min. Farrakhan the most lied on and mis-portrayed man he knows. The Minister is an example of true power, the power of the mind, he said. Those who fear Min. Farrakhan aren’t afraid of a gun, but are fearful because truth he speaks awakens the people, said the outspoken priest. Look for more coverage in an upcoming edition of The Final Call.
