CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FinalCall.com) - The weekend of October 12-14 Charlotte, NC will be the place to be as the city hosts the 17th Anniversary of the Million Man March and Holy Day of Atonement 2012.
Residents of the “Queen City” are counting down the days until the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan delivers his keynote address at Bojangles Coliseum.
Momentum is in the air and the buzz is building as friends of Farrakhan and NOI supporters anxiously await his arrival.
The Muslims of Muhammad Mosque Number 36 in Charlotte are diligently working day and night to receive visitors and guests from around the country.
According to organizers the weekend’s events are scheduled to begin with the president of Johnson C. Smith University, Dr. Ronald L Carter hosting a tour of the historically Black college for Min. Farrakhan.
On October 12, the newly appointed Imam of Mosque Maryam, Sultan Rahman Muhammad will deliver the Khutbah (sermon) for a Unity Jumu’ah (congressional prayer) of Imams and the Muslim community. Many Muslim leaders from Charlotte and surrounding cities have confirmed their participation in this historic Jumu’ah.
On October 13, Reverend Dr. Dwayne A Walker, one of the most prominent and socially active pastors in Charlotte and a member of the 2012 Holy Day of Atonement Hosting Committee reopens his church, Little Rock AME Zion for a leadership meeting with Minister Farrakhan, clergy, business people, politicians, students, grassroots activists, and other organizational heads, said organizers.
Later in the day, “Family Day in the Park” takes place with Believers from around the Nation gathering on 146 scenic acres of land for food, fun, and fellowship. Some of the planned events include softball, basketball, kickball, and volleyball games, children’s bouncers, vending, and much more.
Saturday night, back by popular demand, is the NOI Historical Exhibit hosted by Abdul Akbar Muhammad, international representative of the Nation of Islam and Student Minister Carlos Muhammad of Baltimore.
The weekend concludes with the highly anticipated keynote address by The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan scheduled to be delivered on Sunday Oct. 14. During the recent #AskFarrakhan Town Hall, the Minister announced he was changing his previously planned subject and will be offering guidance and advice to President Obama should he win a second term.
“And in a second term, I think President Obama should address the condition of our people: the homelessness, the poverty, the fratricidal conflict…we can’t allow the president not to think about the people that have put him in the position of power,” said Min. Farrakhan.
Charlotte Believers along with assistance from other cities in the Mid-Atlantic and other regions have distributed thousands of flyers and hung up posters in businesses throughout the city. The M.G.T. and G.C.C., the women of the Nation have been tirelessly on the phones, from 9am to 9pm daily, making calls and extending invitations to Charlotte’s residents. Radio ads are also being heard throughout the day on the major urban stations.
Youth will also be represented as students from local schools and colleges will be in attendance. Rev. Kojo Nantambu, local NAACP President and promoter of HDOA 2012 stated “the continuation of the Million Man March celebration is one that is very much needed by this country and our community.”
