What Islam has done for me

(FinalCall.com) - I thank Allah every day for the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan’s example of how to serve our people. I’ve learned so much over the past 32 years in the Nation of Islam, 15 of them as a regional laborer.
Those experiences empowered me to start Wedded Bliss Foundation in 2001. I needed to make Islam and our teachings of self-sufficiency real for my children. I needed them to see in me that everything we’re taught can come to life. A big field awaits the wide-awake man and woman.
After serving my nation as a laborer, I opened my eyes and found an area of Black life in desperate need of reformation. People ask me how to get started, I say just pick any area of our life and get busy. Whatever area it is from teen pregnancy, to rites of passage for youth, to HIV/AIDS, to education to whatever, with the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad you will soar.
By Allah’s grace and mercy, I’ve accomplished so much from starting Wedded Bliss Foundation to starting Black Marriage Day to being on CNN’s Black in America 2, to being an award winning journalist with The Final Call Newspaper, to starting the Ramadan Prayerline, to hosting The American Dream on Press TV, to being quoted in the Economist, Ebony, Essence, the Washington Post and more, to being the new Relationship Columnist for Heart and Soul Magazine, to now being recognized in Jet. Does this sound like bragging? I’m just stating facts.
It has been a great journey that is far from over, if it pleases Allah. I’ve never had to compromise being Muslim. I think people gravitate to me more because I am Muslim, opposites attract. I thank Allah for my family and for their love, patience as well as their sacrifice.
