CHICAGO (FinalCall.com) - The M.G.T. and G.C.C., the Muslim women of the Nation of Islam were out in full force at the 2014 Black Women’s Expo promoting unity, sisterhood and Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint among the thousands of participants and attendees.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Black Women’s Expo, held at the McCormick Place March 28- 30 in Chicago. Creator and founder Merry Green  said  “there was a hunger in the African American community for this type of event.”  The event provides an opportunity to showcase products, goods, services and talents available in the Black community she explained.

“The Black Women’s Expo is one that focuses on health and wellness, education, finance, family and relationships but most importantly, it’s a weekend where woman are engaged, empowered and enlightened,” said Ms. Green.

Women who attend have the opportunity to meet and network with other women that may be going through similar situations or have achieved success in their lives she added.

In addition to the wide array of seminars, demonstrations, activities, health screenings speakers, literary cafes, fashion shows, and live entertainment, this year also included the M.G.T. of Mosque Maryam who participated as vendors in this year’s expo, promoting Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint.

The Blueprint calls on 16 million Black wage earners to give just 35 cents a week to a national treasury.  In one year the fund would amass $291 million to be invested first in farmland and then in other industries and projects.

Led by National M.G.T. Student Captain Sandy Muhammad and First Officer Kacia Muhammad, groups of Muslim sisters walked through the aisle, shaking hands and sharing conversations with women of many different races and religious backgrounds, explaining the importance of Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint, reintroduced by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as a means to toward ending poverty and want in the Black community.

The M.G.T. also set up tables filled with brochures and handed out free DVD’s of Saviours’ Day 2013 titled “Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint Ending Poverty and Want”.

For the sisters that participated, it was an exciting and rewarding experience.

Sister Naeema Muhammad said her experience participating in the expo was “delightful”. Everyone she interacted with was warm and receptive to the information being provided.  Attendees also agreed with Min. Farrakhan’s message in that the Economic Blueprint was right and exact and what the community needed.

Most of the attendees said making a way for better opportunities in the Black community was something they had been looking for.

There was a loving and very receptive response to the M.G.T. as they came through wearing their colorful garments as Expo attendees recognized this as a reflection of Minister Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.

The women distributed over 1,900 CD’s and DVD’s along with 2,500 trifold cards containing invitations to mosque meetings and Final Call Newspapers during the 3-day event.

Najah Muhammad said the experience allowed her a chance to interact with other Black women in the community and to help promote the Minister’s work and invite people out to the classes and meetings at Mosque Maryam.

Maisha Carter, a vendor promoting her stage play at the Expo, said the Muslim women definitely stood out in their vibrant colored garments and added she was approached by several sisters in a “warm and down to earth way.”

“One of the ladies bought one of my DVDs and I was given a DVD with one of the sermons from Minister Farrakhan.  I am a Christian, however I truly respect sincerity and genuine faith in all its forms...so it was beautiful to be invited to the mosque and given a message,” said Ms. Carter.

Ms. Green’s vision for the future is to bring the Black Women’s Expo around the country. She is developing a national speaker’s series that will address some of the common issues that affect Black people whether they’re in Atlanta, D.C. or Houston. This year you will find the expo on tour in Washington, D.C. and other major cities. For more information on Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint visit www.economicblueprint.org.
