Iran says ready to allay West nuclear concerns

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has reiterated the country’s readiness to allay Western concerns over its nuclear energy program in a “win-win manner.”

“Although we deem the nuclear dossier concocted, we are ready to allay the West’s concerns on the basis of international laws and conventions,” Ali Akbar Salehi said on Friday, Sept. 6.

“We are ready to resolve the nuclear issue in a win-win manner,” he stressed.

The comments come in the run-up to a new round of talks between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on Sept. 27.

Mr. Salehi, who served as Iran’s former foreign minister before taking over as AEOI chief, said the Islamic Republic accordingly expects the recognition of its nuclear rights—as stipulated in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the IAEA Statute.

The AEOI will be in charge of the technical talks with the IAEA in the Austrian capital in September, he added.

Mr. Salehi also pointed out that a decrease in Iran’s 20-percent enriched uranium stockpile was not politically motivated, explaining that the enriched uranium is being used in the production of reactor fuel rods.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the U.S. and the European Union using the unfounded allegation as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions on Iran.

Tehran strongly rejects the claim, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the NPT and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Meanwhile, numerous inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities by the IAEA have never found any evidence showing that the Iranian nuclear energy program has been diverted toward non-civilian purposes. (PressTV.com)
