Nation of Islam: Honoring a special sister in Boston

A tribute to Sister Shirley Muhammad, of Boston, was recently hosted by her daughter Sister Yvette Muhammad and the Muslim woman and Nation of Islam pioneer was honored for years of service and devotion to Islam and the broader community.

Sister Shirley is highly respected and loved in the Nation and in the city of Boston and is the wife of Min. Don Muhammad, a stalwart and pioneer, who leads the city’s influential Muhammad Mosque No. 11. Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, first lady of the Nation of Islam, attended the program and was accompanied by her daughters. Student National MGT Capt. Sandy Muhammad, former M.G.T. National Capt. A’ishah Muhammad, former M.G.T. Capt. Karriemah Muhammad, Nation of Islam student M.G.T. captains from around the country as well as the Nation’s national director of fundraising Claudette Marie Muhammad participated in the wonderful evening Aug. 25.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan sent a specially recorded message in which he thanked Sister Shirley for her commitment and contribution to the Nation. Speakers who saluted Sister Shirley included her husband, Nation of Islam officials and others, including a state representative and Mayor Thomas Menino.
