St. Louis Gears Up For 10,000 Men Community Event

Activists, youth groups, civic and religious organizations, politicians and social justice advocates are preparing a city-wide four-day event that will educate, enlighten, empower and help provide much needed resources to a Black community in need.  

Anthony Shahid, an activist based in St. Louis, his helpers and other organizers are convening the event to not only celebrate 30 years of work and service of The Tauheed Youth Group but it is also a four-day weekend of activism and urban peacemaking. The event, also a reunion for members and supporters of The Tauheed Youth Group April 6–9.

On Saturday, April 8 the goal for that day is to take 10,000 men into the street at the same time—pushing for thousands of men in the streets of St. Louis and other cities to offer resources, counseling, jobs and a helping hand for young men who need to come out of horrible conditions. “It’s about trying to save some lives,” Mr. Shahid said.

It is a collaborative effort as dozens of local organizations and groups are lending their resources, support and effort, he explained. Harris-Stowe State University, the St. Louis branch of the Urban League, Ethno Nightlife, Zaki Baruti, the Nation of Islam, 25 area pastors, Olie Stewart, St. Louis Public Schools, Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed, St. Louis Alderman John C. Muhammad and Better Family Life are just a few of the participants and supporters.

A schedule of events for the weekend are as followed:

April 6Meet and Greet/Alumni Member Social at Vashon High School, 3035 Case Ave., from 5:00 -9:00 p.m.

April 7—Jumu’ah Prayer Lecture and Reunion Dinner at The Youth & Family Center, 818 Case Ave., from 1 p.m. -3:00 p.m. Awards ceremony & Dinner themed “Honoring Our Heroes,” BFL Cultural, Educational and Business Center, 5415 Page Blvd., 6:00 p.m.–9 p.m.

April 8—10,000 Men Nationwide Street Patrol, Vashon High School, 3035 Cass Ave., Arrival time 5:00 p.m., Street time 7:00 p.m., 10,000 Sisters Pray/Nationwide Social Media Takeover, starting at 5:00 p.m.- 12 a.m. wherever you are located.

April 9—Celebration of 30 Years of Service Program, Bro. Anthony Shahid delivering Grand Finale Keynote Address at Harris-Stowe State College—Henry Given, Jr. Auditorium, 3026 Laclede Ave.
