ST. LOUIS—Student Minister Rasul Muhammad, one of the sons of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, made a pit stop on his nationwide Ministry of Love tour in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. His message of love inspired and encouraged a community affected by the harsh reality of racism, police brutality and racial disparity. The Black community on both sides of the Mississippi river and believers from Muhammad Mosque’s No. 28 and 28B, enjoyed two days of Bro. Rasul’s wisdom and sense of humor on Nov. 19 and 20.

On the first night Believers invited guests to have dinner and ask the student minister of the Nation of Islam questions. Bro. Rasul, sat casually in a tan two piece walking suit near the front of the auditorium teaching life’s lessons and he shared an emotional experience of his close bout with suicide, and how he was blessed to overcome that moment through the healing power of love. He told the full house of visitors and believers how special and unique they were in the sight of Allah (God) and that Allah loved each one of them individually.

“From a great fall in my own personal life, physically, mentally and spiritually the greatest message of love that I can give to people is making them aware that no matter how bad their condition may appear, in spite of it all Allah (God) still loves them individually. Individually and we must never give up on Allah because it is not Allah that ever forsakes us, it’s we that forsake Him, and the illusion that He had forsaken me almost lead me to suicide,” he shared.

On the following day the spirit of love filled the air of the local Mosque when Christians and Muslims showed unity with one another just three miles east of Ferguson, Mo. Ferguson is where Mike Brown Jr., a Black unarmed teen was killed two years ago by White former police officer Darren Wilson.

“As a Christian, he answered my question about us coming together as an interfaith partnership and how to attract our young people. He said we need to educate them by not just giving knowledge in terms of words but by instructions and to develop programs in the community,” said Pastor Vickie Caldwell in response to Bro. Rasul’s message.

“He also said we need to sustain ourselves through economic development and using the resources of the community by accessing the different talents and skills of the community,” she added. Bro. Rasul talked about the need to recognize the God-given talents everyone possesses and to not envy people for expressing what God has given them.

Denise Thymes, a singer performed with Bro. Rasul at Mosque 28’s annual Saviours’ Day awards banquet several years ago, sang a beautiful song just before introducing him to the audience.

“You know love’s in need of love today, and the Minister brought such a wonderful message on love today and it was a message that was felt by both Christians and Muslims and with the tone of the political outcome of the presidential election this is really a time for us to come together. Not only as Muslims and Christians but as brothers and sisters, as Black people as a whole for us to reach out and connect with each other not based on what religion you are,” said Ms. Thymes.

“Our religion is not going to matter especially when we have to fight for what affect all of us and affects our children, their children and the children to come. His message was certainly a message that was needed and received by all,” she added.

Min. Rasul concluded the message by pointing out that The Ministry of Love is about reconnecting the people in consciousness to the love of God. “In the scripture that says, ‘you know that you’ve crossed from death to life ... because you love the brotherhood’ 1 John 3:14,” he said.
