(FinalCall.com) - At Final Call presstime supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal said the 60 year old had been hospitalized March 30 for a medical emergency.  According to reports Mr. Abu-Jamal was rushed from the State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy in Schuylkill County in Pennsylvania to Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville where he is in Intensive Care. Other reports said he was in a diabetic coma.

Family members, friends and supporters of the author, writer, radio host and former Black Panther had gathered outside the medical facility trying to get more information on the condition of Mr. Abu-Jamal but said the hospital would not give them any updates or accurate reports on his condition.

Mr. Abu-Jamal was convicted for the 1981 shooting death of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. He was sentenced to death which was reduced to life without parole after the sentence was overturned by a federal appeals court in 2011.
