False AwakeningBy Anisah Muhammad | Last updated: Aug 26, 2013 - 9:57:35 AM
You may be thinking, “What do we have to do with this?”
A free lion that is trapped in his cage cannot escape until the cage is opened. The circus lion is not in his rightful place as king of the jungle. He has been raised to perform and act for entertainment. He doesn’t know what he is; he just knows that when he does certain tricks he gets a treat. It’s only when he stands next to a real lion that he realizes a difference. When his caretaker opens the cage for him to get out, he may think that he’s free, but after he’s done performing he’ll go right back into that cage.
The Black Man and Woman of America are like the circus lion. We are still caged, with chains holding us down to keep us progressing as a people. We spit crap out of our mouths also known as unconscious rap. We perform on stage for the world to laugh at us. We have been made to think that the only things we can be successful in are singing, rapping, and playing sports.
Sure, we can run and jump, sing and dance, but is that all we can do? We get paid to do those things and start to think that we’re better than our poor brothers and sisters. We do our little performances for the White man, and he gives us a little money and his praise. We think we’re high and mighty to get praise from the slavemaster.
We have been falsely awakened. Some of us think we have woken up, but we are really still in a deep sleep that only God can wake us up from. We have been led to believe that this is a post-racial America and everything is jolly and good now. The truth is we have been falsely awakened and the only way for us to have a real awakening is when we start listening to the truth about ourselves, our religion, our God, and the Devil. ‘Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.’
The circus lion doesn’t know how a free lion acts until he meets one. We don’t know what being Black really means until we meet the M.G.T., the women, and F.O.I., the men, of the Nation of Islam, and start listening to the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. For the lion to escape his cage, he would have to separate himself from the caretaker.
We have to wake up, and not falsely. We have to wake up truly and completely! We have to stop dreaming and stop pretending that all is right in America, and racism is no longer present. Hear the trumpet blowing clearly in all of the confusion and let its music wake you up from your deep sleep!
