What's your opinion on this article?

Below are excerpts from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1954.

“It is very late now and I wish that I had or rather (pardon me) rather I wish that you had the patience that I have to stay and listen to all that we have to say. But knowing your patience very well, we are trying to hurry through with what we have in mind giving to you just that we said—highlights of it, but we do like that you have patience today. Listen to the truth, and after listening to the truth act upon the principles of the truth.

It is not just to challenge your faith, your God or whatever it may be that you are worshipping or that you believe in, it is not that. It is our love for our people and the sake of humanity that we desire to warn you from Allah that an awful world and an awful destruction is now imminent.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan

According to the scripture, at the time that the prophets prophesied that the gathering together of the people of earth there would be lots of trouble, there would be lots of hatred among you, great dissatisfaction.

Since you and me are witnesses here this afternoon in this world that we live, we have been so greatly misunderstood that I desire that Allah send to me a little helper. For 22 years I have worked hard wherever I was or may be to try to get into your ears and into your hearts the truth that Allah has revealed to me.

I want to make it very clear to you that I have not come before you to try to teach you of a religion that you have not yet been acquainted with nor even myself. I myself was born in America and was born under the Christian religion. I did not know Islam until around 23 years ago. In fact about it, I had no knowl- Truth and a right relationship with The Supreme Being is our birthright edge of anything other than what I was taught here under the Christian guidance.

After Allah brought to you and me Islam it has been to me like one that has been sound asleep and someone comes around early in the morning and wakes them up and tells them that it is now day. I consider all of my years before the coming of Allah and Islam to me as years that were lost in darkness. I’m thankful to Allah for you that He has opened their hearts for the accepting of Islam. I know how you was because I know it myself. We don’t have to say the crimes that we committed or the evils that we practiced, we can sum all of that up into one word: we were other than our own selves.”

…. What we are into now will deepen our perception of the goal to which Minister Farrakhan is traveling and the basis of our certainty that he will succeed in arriving to this destination.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad once said all truth is divine. We are the people of God referred to in the scriptures as His “Chosen” people. And, deeper, we are actually His children.

We are descendants of Him. This can be shown and proven. This is part of the revealing of the mystery of God, which was among the great truths prophesied throughout scriptures to be revealed in the last days of falsehood. If this is so, and it is, we are as divine as truth.

We have been raised in a world of falsehood and evil. When, therefore, we become convinced of this or that aspect of truth from this or that member of the family of God, we should regard this as being helped to gain our birthright. Truth is our birthright. A right relation to the Supreme Being is our birthright.

He or she who helps us to our birthright ought not to hold it over our heads. They are not doing us a favor. They are actually helping themselves too. It is a matter of duty. This is the lowest level of good.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad has said that: “It is the duty of a brother or a sister to come to the aid of a brother or sister when they are in distress.” To be without our birth-right is to be in distress.

To help another in that condition is to fulfill one’s duty. To fulfill one’s duty, in such instances, is to help self as well as the other. Every act has a spiritual and moral content. So to do such good—by its very nature—releases good to and in ourselves.

All right now, let us reflect over the fact that Almighty God created the heavens and the earth with the same “thing” with, or by which, He revealed His truth to His servants, the prophets.

In the Holy Qur’an 3:3 we read: “He has revealed the Book to thee with truth, verifying that which was before it, and He revealed the Torah and the Gospel aforetime, a guidance for the people, and He sent the Discrimination.” (Note the words: “with truth.”)

Everything about the works of Allah tells us, who see deep enough, that He is consistent. He operates by the law and power of His own Holy Being and never contradicts, or double- crosses Himself.

He has not created the universe and ourselves and then revealed His word and Will to us with such content and in a way, or by methods, that does not enable us to live in peace in His created universe.

Let us examine this phrase “with truth.” There are places in the Holy Qur’an where it is written that He created the heavens and the earth “with truth.” Likewise, there are places, in this wonderful book, wherein Allah states that He has revealed the Holy Qur’an “with truth.”

In footnote No. 382 to 3:3 of the Holy Qur’an, translated by Muhammad Ali, we read, “For the sake of simplicity I render haqq as meaning truth, but haqq primarily signifies suitableness the requirements of wisdom, justice, right, truth, or fact, or to the exigencies of the case.”

If we give this a little thought, it becomes clear that the All-Wise Creator took everything into consideration, when and as He revealed what He revealed to His prophets in the past, for the benefit of the people in their day, as well as in His creative acts by which He created the universe and all that is in it.

Since He made known to them this time in which we now live and our problems, it follows, then, that in the scriptures we have that which will aid us to make appropriate actions, and which will enable us to relate far better to the realities of our day about us—when we come to understand the purposes of God.

Among the chief purposes of God in His coming is to clear away the mysteries and misunderstandings pertaining to the scriptures.
