“Glory to Him Who carried His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Remote Mosque, whose precincts We blessed, that We might show him of Our signs! Surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” –Holy Qur’an, Surah 17, verse 1
Many fascinating stories have been written on the significance of Prophet Muhammad’s Ascension into the Seven Heavens on how he made the journey from the Sacred Mosque at Mecca to the Remote Mosque at Jerusalem. According to the Holy Qur’an, Surah 17, verse 1, he was taken by night to this site in Palestine to be shown some of the Signs of Allah. It is written that he was accompanied on this journey by the Angel Gabril or Jabril mounted on a glistening white steed or horse named Barak, sometimes spelled Buraq, with lightning speed was carried into the Seven Heavens to meet His Lord.
When Master Fard Muhammad, the Great Mahdi, identified Himself in Person, in the city of Detroit in 1930 to begin his Divine Work in the Resurrection of our dead nation and people, he raised one among us as his chosen Apostle and Messenger, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, to work with Him in this Great Mission.
What I have shared with our readers over the past several weeks concerning some of my early childhood experiences in Detroit is blended into time past and yet to come as we are preparing to make our Ascension into the heavens and are being aided by fast moving angels (modern equipment and communication).
I am reminded of the Holy Qur’an, Surah 64, verses 2 and 4 which state: “He it is Who created you, but one of you is a disbeliever and one of you is a believer. And Allah is seer of what you do. … He knows what is in the heavens and the earth, and He knows what you hide and what you manifest. And Allah is Knower of what is in the hearts.”
By practicing certain disciplines, we can avoid the fate of our inclination toward evil and disposition to wicked behavior. In this answer I understand more fully why the Honorable Elijah Muhammad said that we would just be lucky to be saved in the Judgment of this world. Only by God’s Grace can we be removed from the Fire. There is a saying of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that God put His hand into the fire and pull out a handful for the sake of His Servant, Muhammad. We can do naught but exhort one another to goodness and exhort one another to Truth, and exhort one another to patience.
I am also reminded of what the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan was told by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad that in every three persons that he converted, one of them would be an enemy. When I arrived in the city of Chicago in 1959, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad began teaching me something about my history from a book on The Life of Prophet Muhammad by William Muir. He showed me specifically sections in the book referring to the life of Ayesha, one of the wives of the Prophet, and how she grew up in her childhood as the daughter of Abu Bakr, one of the close companions of the Prophet, and how she was chosen from childhood to be the Prophet’s wife, (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him).
This book spoke about her bringing her playthings as a child from Mecca to Medina to join his household, though their actual marriage was not consummated until many years later. She was described as a young and beautiful girl gifted with many talents and possessed a keen, intuitive mind for studying and learning details about the Prophet and his Teachings. When she was asked about his character and morals, she answered that his character and morals were that of the Qur’an itself.
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught me much about Muhammad’s history from his own studies and from the Holy Qur’an. He was assigned by Master Fard Muhammad, upon his departure, to read a list of 104 books in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., which contained mostly material on Muhammad’s history. This happened while he was on the run from his enemies for seven years from 1935 to 1942. It felt like I, myself, was on this journey to self-discovery and knowledge that has lasted a full lifetime. Since the departure of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1975, 38 years ago, I have traveled in a continual evolutionary journey and course of study, being guided by His Presence in my everyday life.
I have traveled, by Allah’s permission, to many parts of the globe and have been a helper to my Brother, and Divine Representative of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, as a bearer of witness to this Truth of the Great Mahdi and His Exalted Christ, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. The Honorable Minister Farrakhan said to me several years ago that I should begin to tell my story, and now I feel it is the time to share my testimony with those who desire to listen that it may be a source of enlightenment, comfort and inspiration in the difficult journey that lies ahead.
“Surely this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright, and gives good news to the believers who do good that theirs is a great reward. And that those who believe not in the Hereafter, We have prepared for them a painful chastisement.” –Holy Qur’an, Surah 17, verses 9-10
