Minister
gives views on Peace Mission and national issues
CAPITOL HILLFresh on the heels of
his peace mission overseas and having just briefed Assistant
Secretary of State William Burns on his mission, the leader of the
Nation of Islam July 23 reported to his own community through its
elected representatives of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).
Invited by the dean of the CBC, Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), the
Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan told the lawmakers of the
missions goalsto stop a war against Iraq and quell the violence
among Palestinians and Israelisand that the U.S. media had
miscast his words in Iraq.

Rallies continue in support of beaten
youth
INGLEWOOD, Calif.Supporters of a teen beaten by Inglewood Police
officers weeks ago continue nightly prayer vigils and strategy sessions
after grand jury indictments of two of the officers involved. Every
evening, members of the Donovan Jackson-Chavis Justice Committee gather
in the Inglewood City Hall courtyard for a prayer vigil and cultural
circle in hopes that their list of demands will be met. Those demands
include dropping all charges against the teen and his father, Coby
Chavis, and for the establishment of an independent civilian review
board of police officers.

The psychological impact of Media Propaganda
The fact that so many Americans were
killed on Sept. 11, 2001 has touched the emotions of most people, blinding
many to the fact that America is not on a noble quest to secure the
worlds human rights. Americas mission is not to rid the world of tyrants
or aide and comfort the sick and poor. Evidence of this includes the
continued racial profiling and recent assaults on Blacks. There is plenty
of work to be done at home. The only reason America is interested in
Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Central America is oil, military
land bases and other resources.

'Thousands have died because of wrong policy'
Former UN humanitarian, Hans Von Sponeck, speaks
of tragedy in Iraq
In 1998, Hans Von Sponeck was appointed UN Humanitarian Coordinator in
Iraq, which includes the Oil For Food Program. At the time he was a
36-year veteran of the UN, but resigned from his post after 17 months
because he could not continue to oversee a program that was leading to
enormous suffering of the people and causes 5,000 unnecessary child deaths
each month due to lack of food, medicines and medical equipment. Recently,
Mr. Von Sponeck was in Chicago at the invitation of the Voices in the
Wilderness organization. While in Chicago, he spoke with Final Call Editor
James Muhammad.

Rapping
for
a cause vs. rapping for money
For over a decade now, rap artist Kam has
produced conscious lyrics, beats, and hard rhythms accenting the
weight of self love, freedom, justice, equality, the ills of
Black-on-Black crime, police brutality, poverty, and the struggles of
Black and oppressed men and women throughout the world and in
Americas penal institutions. But hes paid a price. Kam says he was
white listed with little or no airplay from stations owned and
operated by mainstream industry execs.
